A recap is not a pirated film: how to tell the difference

Commentary, compression, and the line we will not cross on Cinema Plus

The runtime test

A theatrical film is roughly ninety to one hundred seventy minutes. A recap that is the same length, in order, with credits cropped, is not a recap. A recap that is a fraction of the runtime, speaks over images, pauses to judge, and skips connective tissue is doing the work of commentary—even when the commentary is clumsy.

We only link official YouTube watch pages and official embed players. We do not host video files. We do not publish download buttons. Thumbnails come from YouTube’s public thumbnail service for the same video ID we embed. If a rights holder asks us to drop a listing, we drop it.

The voice test

Is the Amharic speaker adding names, motives, and warnings, or only reading the subtitles aloud? Adding is criticism-adjacent. Reading is duplication. Our editors reject listings whose descriptions are generic channel slogans (“Welcome to… quality movies”) because that is a storefront, not a review.

What readers can do

Prefer pages that name the original work, the year, and the author of the essay. Prefer embeds you can open on YouTube. If you are a rights holder, email us with the URL. We would rather shrink the catalog than pretend a copy is a magazine.
