Spoiler etiquette for Ethiopian group chats

How to talk about recaps without ruining the night for the person still on episode one

Name the work, then name the timestamp of your mouth

Write the title and “up to the hospital scene” or “up to her first day in prison” before you type the take. People can mute a thread. They cannot unsee a twist dumped between football stickers.

If the recap itself is the text—because many viewers only watch recaps—say that too. “Recap ending” is different from “series ending.” Amharic narrators sometimes invent a moral button the original episode did not press.

ክርክር መጥፎ አይደለም። ያልተጠየቀ መጨረሻ ማውጣት ነው የሚያበሳጨው። ርዕሱን እና የት እንዳቆምክ በመጀመሪያ ጻፍ።

What is not a spoiler

Genre is not a spoiler. Saying a title is a zombie-school story or a revenge drama helps people opt out. Tone is not a spoiler. “This one is meaner than the thumbnail” is a kindness. Character names in the first act are not spoilers.

What is a spoiler: who dies, who was pretending, who goes to prison, whether the couple actually divorces. Keep those behind a clear label. On Cinema Plus we put late-plot discussion in interpretation sections and we do not hide the fact that interpretation exists—but we write so a cautious reader can stop after the review.

Admin energy without being the police

One person in a chat can pin a rule: no endings before Sunday. That is enough. If someone spoils, do not pile on; ask them to edit. Shame is a worse culture than spoilers.
