How to watch a recap actively in 25 minutes

A repeatable worksheet you can keep in your notes app

The five prompts

1) Who wants what in the first five minutes? 2) What rule of the world (school, prison, planet) is being taught? 3) Where does the recap laugh, and is the laugh at someone powerless? 4) What does the Amharic narrator add that the picture did not? 5) What would you tell a friend who has only a commute left in their day?

Write answers in fragments. Fragments beat a blank screen. If you cannot answer (5), the recap did not finish its job—or you were scrolling. Try once without another tab.

One pause is enough

Pause at the first major injustice. Ask whether you are being asked to enjoy it. Then continue. This single pause trains you more than a recap binge.

አንድ ጊዜ ብቻ ቆም ብለህ “ይህን ጭካኔ እየተደሰትኩ ነው?” ብለህ ጠይቅ። ያ በቂ ልምምድ ነው።

After the credits of the recap

Read our lessons and recommendations. If they disagree with you, that is the point of a magazine. If they repeat the recap, email us—we failed, and we will rewrite.
