Bullying stories: a pause protocol that is more useful than a warning label

The protocol

If you feel your shoulders rise, pause. Put the phone face down. Name one object in the room. Decide, out loud if needed: continue, skip five minutes, or quit. Continuing without deciding is how a recap hijacks your evening.

If you are with a young person, do the protocol together. You are teaching them that media is not weather. Weather happens to you. Media is a choice.

When the story is too close

If you were bullied, you do not owe these titles your attention. There is no prize. Read our article on media literacy or the comedy guide instead. If a child discloses after a recap, believe them and talk to a trusted adult in their real school. A YouTube recap is not a hotline.
